PROJECT//

Between 11° north and 4.5° south,

             the water belt

Between 11° north and 4.5° south latitude are most of the Earth's paramos, ecosystems of immense importance for the water sources of the intertropical mountains. In the Andes, the paramos extend in a belt that stretches from Venezuela through Colombia, Ecuador and into northern Peru.

Aiming to reflect and understand the importance of this ecosystem, this interdisciplinary project is presented as a meditation that brings the viewer closer to the details and richness of this land through the senses. This proposal aims to provide a captivating description of the Paramo ecosystem in Colombia by combining music, soundscape and visual art. Specifically, I want to depict the Chingaza paramo through five themes: Water sources, flora, fauna, the cosmogony of the indigenous people of the region and the impact of modern human life. I also want to build this work as an informative work of art.

This landscape of the Colombian Paramo (marshland) is a natural region of crucial importance for Andean ecosystems. A fundamental source of water (80% of the water) for several of the largest and most important cities in Colombia. It is the region where I was born and I think that as an artist I also have the responsibility to make visible through my work the landscapes that we as humanity need to protect.
